Chapter III: Leap Forward
Collaboration is key to making breakthroughs in life science and beyond. From our first investment until today, this conviction remains unchanged. Together with our portfolio companies, we share a tireless pursuit of tomorrow.
We aim to enable, so others can fly.
To illustrate this, we embarked on an ambitious mission in the middle of the Pacific Ocean to demonstrate the power of science to break through seemingly impossible challenges.
Breaking through impossible. Together.
On August 14th 2022, world-record holder Olivia Jenkins, in collaboration with a team led by weather scientist Dr. Alicia Ageno, became the first kite surfer to cross the international date line between American Samoa and Samoa, leaping from today to tomorrow.
Scientists consider this stretch of the Pacific Ocean among the most dynamic and volatile regions on earth. Climate change has made conditions even more unpredictable and threatening. Working together, Olivia and Alicia demonstrate how science and fierce determination can help tackle the world’s biggest challenges.
Crossing the line
Produced by BBC StoryWorks, Crossing the Line dives deeper into Olivia and Alicia’s achievement of kiting over the International Dateline. The documentary takes us to Samoa, where challenging, unpredictable weather conditions made their feat nearly impossible.
Their experience opens a window to the reality of #climatechange on this remote island, located quite literally on the edge of tomorrow. Through interviews with Samoan meteorologists and community leaders, the need for innovation and action to combat climate change becomes increasingly clear, human, and urgent.
Collaborating with the smartest minds
In an increasingly convergent world, there is no innovation without collaboration. Together, we aim to solve some of the world’s biggest challenges.
