Andes is an agriculture and biotechnology innovator empowering microbes to help fight climate change.

Approach

Andes empowers microbes by engineering them and has developed a process for seamlessly integrating microbes into the agriculture process. Its Microprime technology reduces the need for synthetic nitrogen fertilizers by integrating seeds with a unique library of microbes that colonize the seed’s root structure and kick start the nitrogen fixation process, enabling crops to draw nitrogen from the air.

Andes is also developing microbial strains for nature-based permanent carbon capture solutions to sequester and store CO2 from the atmosphere into the soil. This initially focuses on capturing carbon via microbial-powered corn crops. If deployed successfully at scale, it could capture several gigatons of carbon a year.
